Everything is computed in your browser. Nothing is stored.
The price a provider advertises is a price per segment, not per message. A thousand-recipient campaign with a 180-character text therefore costs two thousand units, and nobody notices until the invoice. This calculator starts from the message itself, derives the segments, multiplies by the recipient count and shows the total with the reasoning laid out.
How to use it
How it works
Paste the message
The segment count is worked out automatically, GSM or Unicode encoding included, and the starting price is the one we charge.
Enter the volume and the price
The number of recipients and your rate per segment. The unit price varies by provider and by destination country.
Compare the variants
The total shows with the cost per recipient, and the saving you would make if the message fitted into one segment fewer.
Worth knowing
Four things to keep in mind
Dropping under 160 characters halves the bill
It is the only genuinely effective lever on campaign cost. Cutting a courtesy phrase and shortening the link is often enough to get back under the line.
Price depends on the destination country
A UK number and a French number do not cost the same with most providers. A mixed list has to be split by dialling code before being budgeted.
Count the invalid numbers
A malformed number may or may not be billed depending on the provider, but it is always wasted. Cleaning the list before sending is the second lever after message length.
Night sends are not cheaper
Unlike voice, there are no off-peak hours in SMS. Sending a commercial message outside permitted hours does expose you to a penalty, though.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
A split message reserves seven bytes per segment for the header that lets the phone reassemble it in order. That leaves 153 usable characters in GSM and 67 in Unicode.
With most providers, yes, the delivery report is included in the segment price. Some bill it separately: check the rate card before reasoning about the total.
It depends on the reason. A non-existent number is usually not billed; a switched-off phone is, since the message is stored and retried by the carrier.
Yes, around ten per cent. Rejects, undetected duplicates and unplanned reminders always push slightly past the initial estimate.
