Open Graph checker for any live public page

The share card as a social scraper actually reads it

After a fix, go through each platform's refresh tool: the first version seen stays cached.

Everything is computed in your browser. Nothing is stored.

A link pasted into a message is drawn from tags nobody ever rereads. The classic fault is not the missing tag: it is the image declared as a relative path, which no platform resolves, or the image deleted from the server since. The tag is right there, a tool that only lists tags says everything is fine, and the link still goes out bare.

How to use it

How it works

1

Paste an address

The tool reads the page and collects its og: tags, its twitter: tags and their content.

2

Watch the image load

It is genuinely downloaded rather than merely quoted, and its dimensions are measured.

3

Compare with the drawn card

The preview shows what will ship, which is easier to judge than a list of tags.

Worth knowing

Four things to keep in mind

A relative path works nowhere

No platform resolves a relative path in og:image. The tag exists, the card ships without a picture, and nothing anywhere else tells you.

The first version seen is the one kept

Facebook and LinkedIn cache from the first crawl. After a fix you have to go through their own refresh tool before the change appears.

twitter:card decides the size

Without it X falls back to the small thumbnail, which scrolls past unseen. The rest of the twitter: tags are optional, that one counts.

og:url should name the canonical page

It is the address shares are credited to. When it diverges from the canonical, your shares pile up on one side and your ranking signals on the other.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

No, they carry no ranking weight at all. They decide what someone sees when you send them your link, and therefore whether they click. That is traffic, not position.

Because the tag and the image are two different things. A relative path, a deleted file, a folder moved behind restricted access: in all three cases the tag stays immaculate and the card ships with no visual.

X falls back to Open Graph tags when its own are missing, so hardly. The one worth setting explicitly is twitter:card, because it chooses between the small thumbnail and the large image.

1200 by 630 pixels is the format every platform accepts without cropping. Below 200 pixels on a side the image is ignored outright.
